I stayed at JW Marriott Marquis Dubai (JWMM) because the room rates were somewhat more reasonable than other Marriott properties and my usual Hiltons in Dubai. Maybe one reason that attracted me well was that JWMM was known as the tallest hotel in the world as of today and was relatively new. This hotel opened in 2009 locating itself on the corner of Business Bay. If you look around the hotel, especially to the West, you see nothing but in a good sunny day, you can see tall buildings in Dubai Marina as well as Burj Al Arab, the seven star rated hotel.
Upon my arrival, my small suitcase was taken care of immediately and I was escorted to the executive lounge on the 37th floor, which was the mid-level floor of total 70 floors. The lounge just looked monotone or maybe the style of the Marquis, which I do not know much as it was my first stay in Marquis or second time this year after staying at Marriott Suzhou in March.

The receptionist was friendly and well trained to serve me. He offered me an upgrade to suit with only 300AED per night but I had to decline not to show my additional fees on my credit card statement. Though I was still upgraded to the better room (again like Holiday Inn, I cannot know much about the room differences between ordinal and upgraded rooms as I am not familiar with Marriott properties) and the view was fantastic. From my room, I could see the world tallest building, Burj Khalifa, and the whole desert over modern buildings.
The room itself was tinier than I had originally expected or just compact. Bathroom was clean and widespread. Shower, bathtub, and toilet were well separated. Large closets were plus as I had to put many shirts on hangers. One mysterious thing about the hotel service was the turndown service always came around 9:00pm. Maybe the hotel statistically knew that most guests were out before and after the dinner times. They might think the best time for the turndowns would be well after the dinner so that the guests could take shower to get ready to go out for cooler night sightseeing.

Plenty of water bottles were served during the stay. Although I could still get enough refrigerated water bottles from the lounge anytime, my desk was filled with water bottles everyday. If you do not miss your turndown services by pressing a Do Not Disturb sign, you would get before-sleep dates and chocolate. They were sweat and could be good souvenirs from JWMM.
Breakfast, afternoon tea, and happy hour dinner were served at the 37th floor executive lounge. Since you do not want to go out to get your breakfast in the damn hot outside, breakfast in the hotel was a must. The breakfast in the executive lounge was somewhat not appealing while I have believed JW’s similar level of a worldwide hotel chain Conrads’ executive lounge breakfast was the best. Happy hour dinner was great. Each day, one of JWMM’s restaurants offers its special menu. On the first night, I got Japanese Sushi and chicken teriyaki BBQs and the second night got American mini burgers.
Happy hour evening dishes
Except for those hours, the lounge is open for 24 hours. This is the great plus to be an executive lounge customer. You do not worry about your drinks and some snacks. You can get your water, juices, sodas, and coffee anytime. The nicest thing about the lounge is vast and you can walk through the lounge to enjoy 360 degrees of the views of Dubai. Don't forget to bring your camera to the lounge. If you are offered to get upgraded to the executive floors upon check-in, this would be the best opportunity to do so.
All the guests at JWMM are available for the hotel shuttle bus services. The services are available to transport you to Dubai Mall every 20 minute till 10pm, Jumeirah Beach Park, Mall of the Emirates, and some other business places from JWMM. Its shuttle bus schedule is available at any desks in the hotel and you should get one. It might be better than taxis because of the trustable hotel shuttle services, which run frequently throughout the day and importantly are very punctual. I myself took advantage of this shuttle bus service throughout my stay and believed it was the best mode of transportation in Dubai.
Convenient shuttle services
Overall, this JWMM was excellent while I will definitely stay again at this property in my future Dubai trip. Again, the best points of this property are the complimentary hotel shuttle bus services, the 24 hour-operated executive lounge, and the helpful and service-oriented staff.
